Central Park a Cappella Series 2

Click on the link to watch it on youtube.

"Roars the deep Dnipr river" is a famous Ukrainian folk song with text by one of the most incredible poets, Taras Shevchenko. Enjoy this excerpt and I welcome your comments, thoughts, and what it resonates to you.

Yours,
Antonina

Taras became an orphan from a very young age... in the full version of this poem he writes how an orphaned girl is awaiting for her lover. She is worried that he won't return and as an orphan, she has no one else to love but him.... if he doesn't return, she doesn't see a point to go on.

Do we feel like orphans at times? Why?

Text translated:

The mighty Dnipr roars and bellows,
The wind in anger howls and raves,
Down to the ground it bends the willows,
And mountain-high lifts up the waves.

In original Ukrainian language:

Реве та стогне Дніпр широкий,
Сердитий вітер завива,
Додолу верби гне високі,
Горами хвилю підійма.

Central Park A Cappella Series 1

Sometimes I go to the park and sing a cappella .... it is very interesting to see people's reaction. They are often confused why such a professional is singing in the park, under the bridge, for free. But, I do it because I gift something to strangers just because and it's priceless to see how it makes them feel. For many, it is the first time they ever hear an operatic sound live and they usually stand there and say, "Wow."

Watch it here. Enjoy.
