Interview/Review with the Michigan Daily

by Akshay Seth on recently performed Don Giovanni
Audiences also reacted positively to the quirky and often volatile Donna Elvira, a betrayed lover of Giovanni’s who set out to prevent the troublemaker from causing any more mischief. Her portrayal in the song “Flee from the traitor!” brought many in the packed auditorium to their feet. The character is portrayed by Antonina Chekhovskaya, a graduate student studying music. When describing her role, Chekhovskaya alluded to Elvira’s deeply conflicted nature.“Donna Elvira is an interesting character to play because she’s so layered.” Chekhovskaya said. “She hates what Don Giovanni does but only because she loves him so deeply.”

Bloomfield Concert

It was such a pleasure to perform at the Bloomfield Library Concert Series, Friday, January 27. I performed Tatiana's Letter Scene from Eugene Onegin (Tchaikovsky). The house was packed with standing room only and had an intimate setting. I was able to see everyone's eyes and communicate directly to them. The audience was so responsive and loving. It was a great night and pleasure to make music in Bloomfield, MI, along with my colleagues. Thank you Bloomfield Library for including the University of Michigan students in your concerts!

Concerto Competition Finalist

I was one of the eight finalists with the University of Michigan Concerto Competition. The competition was held at the gorgeous Hill Auditorium where I performed Tatiana's Letter Scene (Eugene Onegin), accompanied by Steven McGhee. Even thou I did not win at the finalists round, I was still very satisfied! Because... First, I enjoyed making music and so did others. Second, I set myself a new bar. Third, I got to perform on Hill stage twice!
